21st Century: Query 164 (Wilbur and Orville Wright)
“I confess that in 1901 I said to my brother Orville that man would not fly for fifty years.” ~ Wilbur Wright was one of two American aviation pioneers/brothers generally credited with inventing, building, and flying the world’s first successful airplane . They made the first controlled, sustained flight of a powered, heavier-than-air aircraft with the Wright Flyer on December 17, 1903, four miles south of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina . In what way was Wright spectacularly incorrect? Is this typical inventor thinking? Why or why not? Why might Wilbur Wright come to such an erroneous conclusion?
